Dive into my Story

Get to know your photographer

Hey there, My name is Paige Stracener!

My photography journey began in 2016, when I was 14 and snapping pictures of anything that caught my eye. Not long after, while working my first job at a barn, I found my true passion: capturing the beauty of horses through my lens. From that moment, I never looked back.

Then I met Florence- aka Flo, and I was instantly in love. With her owner's permission, I started spending time with her and photographing her. Flo has always been a natural poser, and us horse people know how rare that is. I've never had to dance like a fool to get her ears forward, she sees the lens and she just knows!

She quickly became my partner and muse, the model behind nearly every idea I dreamed up, and the one who made me truly love equine photography. When I was given the chance to make her a part of my life forever, I took it. Now she's not just my heart horse, she's the soul and light behind Big Sky Hooves. I'm just the one with opposable fingers to click the shutter!

Today, I mostly specialize in equine photography, but my love for animals goes far beyond horses. Dogs, cats, cattle, goats- really, any critter that's special to you. Because every animal deserves to have their story remembered.

Why I keep my prices so low:

I keep my pricing affordable on purpose, not because my work is worth less, but because I don't believe memories with your pets should feel like a luxury.

With a one-hour session, you'll receive 50+ edited photos. You won't have to choose favorites or pay extra for the rest. You get the full gallery because these aren't just pictures, they're pieces of your life.

My goal has never been to upsell you or turn your memories into add-ons. I want you to walk away with every moment that matters.

This isn't a criticism of other photographers, it's simply personal to me. I've never been able to justify spending money on professional photos for myself, so I wanted to create something that gives others the opportunity I never had.

My pricing keeps my business going and lets me spoil my own pets a little along the way.

FAQ

Do you travel for photoshoots?

Yes! (travel fees may apply) I currently travel within the state of Montana for photoshoots. My goal is to expand into surrounding states as Big Sky Hooves grows, so stay tuned; I’d love to bring my camera even farther in the future.

What should we wear for our session?

Think comfortable, natural, and true to you. Neutral and earthy tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connection rather than your clothes. I always recommend avoiding loud patterns, logos, or super bright colors, as they can be distracting and pull attention away from the moment. Most importantly, wear something you can move in and feel like yourself in. If you’re comfortable, it shows. Whether that’s jeans and boots, cozy layers, or something flowy and simple, the goal is to look like you, just in a really beautiful season of your life. If you’re ever unsure, I’m always happy to help you choose outfits that fit your session and location.

How long does it take to get our photos?

After your session, I take time to carefully edit your images. Your final gallery will be delivered within approximately 2–3 business weeks. Please have patience as I also work full time!

What if my horse is nervous or uncooperative?

That’s completely okay and honestly, more common than you think. Horses are allowed to be horses. I work with a lot of different personalities and always approach sessions with patience and flexibility. We’ll take breaks if needed, let your horse settle, and follow their lead rather than forcing them into anything. Some of the most meaningful images come from those in-between moments when things aren’t “perfect.” My goal is to keep the experience relaxed and safe, and to capture your horse exactly as they are in this season.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Weather can be unpredictable, and that’s okay! If conditions aren’t safe or ideal for your session, we’ll reschedule for the next best available date at no extra cost. I always keep an eye on the forecast and will be in touch leading up to your session to make the call together. My goal is to make sure you get the best experience without anyone feeling rushed or worried.

Can I bring my dog/partner/family to the session?

Yes! Dogs, partners, and children are absolutely welcome. Your session is about your story, and I love including the ones who matter most to you. If you’re hoping to bring a larger group, that may require an additional fee and will need to be discussed before booking so I can make sure we plan enough time and space for everyone.

I got our gallery back today and there's so many beautiful photos and they're everything I wanted and more. Quite a few will be made into prints to forever hang in my home.

Paige’s photography and photo editing skills are great. She took an excellent photo of Ruler in the snow last year and I was able to use it for our Christmas Cards. I highly recommend Big Sky Hooves Photography!
